RSP INVESTMENT MADE EASY FOR THE REST OF US

Vancouver, March 11, 2008—When it comes to RSPs, we all know we should contribute. The promise of a growth in funds is ample incentive, after all. But how many of us can actually say that we understand, or are interested in, the why and the how?

In 2005, more than six million Canadians contributed to an RSP, with an average contribution of $5,016 (Source: Statistics Canada). For many of these investors, the intricacies of RSP investment have proven to be more confusing than informative.

That’s why GrowthWorks Capital, a venture capital investment firm, enlisted the creative and strategic guidance of Vancouver-based design firm Kaldor Brand Strategy + Design to decipher RSP-speak by designing an unconventional communications piece that would create external and internal buzz for its new investment product: the GrowthWorks RSP Accelerator.

“The GrowthWorks RSP Accelerator program allows investors to tap into extra tax savings not normally available with regular RSP investment,” said Tracey Morrison, VP Marketing and Communications at GrowthWorks. “It’s such a fantastic program but many people find the subject matter difficult to grasp. What we needed was a communications piece that would generate interest in RSP investment.”

What’s the fastest way to tune people out of RSPs? First, bore them with a conventional brochure then confuse them with irrelevant details. Instead, Kaldor opted to take a different approach and drew creative inspiration from Saul Bass’ legendary animated motion picture title sequences. Using this concept as a starting point, the idea for the GrowthWorks RSP Accelerator animation was born.

Knowing that complex information can be more easily digested when simplified and delivered in an engaging manner, Kaldor created an animated flash presentation that follows the narrative of a “savvy” investor, Alex, as he navigates through the basic steps of RSP investment using the GrowthWorks RSP Accelerator. The presentation emphasized basics like how much is required to invest, for how long and how much one can expect to earn in order to maximize understanding of the product’s benefits. The eye-catching animation and quirky storyline served to pique curiosity and utilized a tone and style consistent with the GrowthWorks brand.
